The best healthcare tweeters to follow on Twitter

Posted on 15 December 2009

YouTube remains the number one destination of choice for video clips of momentuous occassions, such as Republican Senator Joe Wilson criminally outrageous “You Lie” outburst during the presidential joint address to Congress on September 9th.
However, for a constant up to the minute streaming source of material debating the proposed changes (or lack of) to healthcare  reform,  CNN recently hilited some of the best twitter streams to follow.

See the list after the jump (more…)

Time for Family & Time off for the troops.

As America’s roads come to a standstill over the next few hours, Thanksgiving has proven itself recession proof as families do whatever is necessary to get together for this special occassion.

Let’s spare a moments thought for those in uniform who will not be spending Thanksgiving with their loved ones. They must find other ways of being with the family for Thanksgiving.  Like Skype! This picture says it all. Courtesy of Boston.Com

Rep Alan Grayson of Florida - refreshingly honest

Rep Alan Grayson of Florida - refreshingly honest

Watching the evening news tonight, it has become clear to me that no-one, not me, not the political pundits, nor the senators themselves, knows what if any, health care legislation gets to be passed by the Senate.

Will it include a public option or won’t it? Will it produce cost savings? Will it curb insurance company abuses? Will it extend insurance to millions of the uninsured? Will there be a state opt out?

Well, since four Democratic Senators, ( Blanche Lincoln, (D-AR) Max Baucus,(D-MN) Ben Nelson (D-NE), and Mary Landrieu (D-LA)) have gone on record as stating that they will not support the public option in its current form, aswell as one former Democrat, (Joe Leiberman I-CT) stating that he would not support a public option in any form; political lines in the sand have been firmly staked out on both sides of the debate. Stephen Fry contemplates Twittercide

Stephen Fry contemplates Twittercide

For those of us who know who Stephen Fry is, know that he is an incredible talent, be it for his brilliant humor, (BlackAdder, Jeeves and Wooster, A bit of Fry and Laurie) his stunning command of the English language (he studied English at Cambridge University together with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson) and his ability to master and amass a huge fan base using the latest communication craze -Twitter.

Throughout his life he has suffered with serious bouts of depression, self doubt, come to terms with being gay ( very much the underlying theme in the movie Peter’s Friends) and yet for a giant of a man ( 6ft 4 ) is such a gentle soul that he has a hard time dealing with, or rather coping with, his legion of Twitter fans, all one million + of them. There is nothing more painful for a parent than to see their child suffer. The agony of feeling utterly helpless when he cries in pain is beyond description. The constant and continual fear that your child will be lost before he can receive the treatment that will save him is almost unbearable. Adding impact to [...]

Make A Wish!

Posted on 28 December 2009

Growing up I had always heard of Make A Wish, knew the basic premise of what they did, but never really appreciated what was involved or how and when the charity begun and where it is today. Luckily for me, their website Wish.org provides an extensive biography of the charity and the work it performs. [...]

This is a story about the best and worst that humanity has to offer. From the depths of cruelty, despair and hopelessness to the freedom of life, liberty and economic self sufficiency. Imagine a world where girls as young as five working a brothel house, having sex with up to thirty paedophiles a night; paedophiles who [...]

Newsweek Needs To Grow Up.

I am no fan of Sarah Palin. I don’t believe that she has any right to be a torchbearer for anything political since giving up the governership of Alaska. Her naked ambitions to run for President are all too apparent, no matter how poorly she attempts to disguise it. Her well timed book publication and its [...]
